And like dreams, everything will float around until you grab a hold of it with your bare hands and make it real. So starts my journey of turning my life long passion of dancing into a life of joy and excitement as I create and explore my own dance company. Along the way I will be taking stock of what it means to be a dancer, giving my thoughts and opinions on the events and places I travel, as well as inspiring others to join me on my journey.
In my opinion, the best way to start a journey should be to look back at where everything started. I shall stick to the briefest of details, else this will turn into a very lengthy post. I started dancing at the age of 9, mainly in Tap, Jazz and Modern. Continued dancing until I was 19, when I discovered Hip Hop and Break-dancing in the clubs. Even though I don’t frequent clubs much anymore, I still keep the ideas and movements in my dancing. I discovered swing dancing when I moved away for school and have been addicted for the past 7 years. It has become a passion, an outlet for my creative and artistic sides.
Combine dancing with my passion for business and you get the basis of running a swing dance company unlike any others I have seen. I have been thinking about this for a few years now after seeing ways I could improve other businesses. After visiting Calgary for a few weeks, I realized that there was a great opportunity to grow and develop the dance scene to become one of the largest scenes in Western Canada.
And so here starts the journey of starting my own dance company, strap in and enjoy the ride. I appreciate any and all feedback and encouragement.
